Me - I can get those references. I started in a book bindery on the bindery floor, minimum wage. Worked the line there, and doing whatever had to be done on the floor. Then on to the Stahl folder and finally to the DG 860 press. I sometimes felt like a zoo animal because I am one of the few females that was on press. Not sure what that's like now but in my 20+ years on many different print shops I have never seen another girl on press. I then supervised the camera prep department with yes, film strippers, platemakers and one of the first computer operated paginating camera's. Fast forward to overseeing two ATF press installations and the entire print/bindery operation. Those were great days filled with stress and employees who became like family. The company is gone now, gobbled up by bigger and bigger companies. Thanks for the memories!

Ha! An enjoyable story! In addition to the joggers, the flyboys, and the pressmen, you may have also had to deal with strippers. Just before I started my career as a technical editor/writer, I worked as a writer/photographer for a daily newspaper. I'd occasionally walk back through the press room and see the huge Heidelberg press roaring along and spitting completed papers out the end (where the joggers and flyboys were working). I also dealt with the strippers in the camera room with the half-tones and the aluminum plates. Later, I worked with the blue-lines and the galleys to make sure the gutters were correct. (How many new kids on the block can get those references straight?)

Enjoyed your story... it brought back many memories!
